Every once in a while even the best investors miss out on a deal they look back on and really wish they had done. Either because they missed it, passed on it, or wanted to invest but were beat out by another investor. For some reason, I like to track the deals I missed out on and take a perverse pleasure in their success. I know of some VCs who even have a “wall of shame” for the great deals they missed.
This morning I woke up to read about some terrific momentum for one such company — OpenX, formerly known as OpenAds — in TechCrunch. I looked at the deal a year ago, and spent a lot of time working on it, but unfortunately for me it went to another VC. OpenX is a very cool company with what I think are terrific prospects. And, from the sounds of it, they are well on their way.
