Last week at our Digital Media Summit, I had two separate conversations with two different portfolio founders (whose names shall remain secret to protect the guilty) that reminded me, yet again, how different the Silicon Valley mindset is from the Silicon Alley mindset.
Both companies saw wildly successful traffic growth in 2006.
One company had lots of success with affiliate marketing programs and did virtually no search optimization or marketing.
The other company has tremendous natural search results and does no affiliate (or any other) marketing whatsoever.
If I could take one of these guys’ right brain, and the other’s left brain, I think we’d have one helluva juggernaut…or a digital Frankenstein.
